Communications,
in collaboration with Wynn

the BLBA and also a community calendar (coming
soon)

Got Heart? Give a Gift of Love!
Local Agency’s
Biggest Fundraiser Runs Through February
Mountain Community Resources kicked off its
annual month-long Gift of Love Phone-a-thon
on February 1, with the goal of raising $40,000
to support their many human-services programs.
This year marks the agency’s celebration
of 25 years of service to the San Lorenzo Valley
community. Following on a hugely successful
event last year, the money raised will once
again help fund programs that have benefited
the community since the agency’s genesis
following the deadly storms of 1982.
MCR’s Board members kicked-off the
event by calling local residents and asking
for their support. Many other community organizations
will be pitching in. Mary Hammer, MCR’s
founding director, will be joining with other
family members on "Hammer Family Night,” with
the Valley Women's Club, Rotary Club of San
Lorenzo Valley, CERT program graduates and
the Teen Program Youth Council (among others)
taking to the phones on other evenings throughout
the month.
MCR could not continue to offer the wealth
of services it provides without the support
of its community. The organization’s
programs have grown over the years to include:
drop-in information and referral services,
family support, low-cost counseling, health
insurance for children, a comprehensive
Teen Program, free parenting classes, drop-in
groups for families and children, community
events, free ESL classes and translation
services in schools and other agencies.
Local residents can participate
by making tax-deductible donations online
at mountaincommunityresources.org,
or by mailing them to Mountain Community
Resources, P.O. Box 105, Ben Lomond, CA
95005. Then follow the progress of the
event by checking the large “Give
A Gift Of Love” sign posted at the
corner of Highway 9 and Graham Hill Road.

2006 Evening in the Park raises spirits
and funds for SLV High Sports Complex
On a beautiful
Saturday evening in September at the Ben
Lomond Park the BLBA’s 2006 Evening in
the Park helped raise funds for a good cause
and helped
the community come together after a week
of sad news.
Thanks to the work of many volunteers and the
generous donations from the local business community
the 2006 Evening in the Park raised over $600 for
the San Lorenzo High Sports Complex and over $1,600
for the BLBA.
The event helped bring the community together
to show its generosity and compassion after a week
of very sad news for our Valley. We’d like
to thank the many volunteers, local wineries, the
Ben Lomond Fire Department and the generous contributions
from local businesses that helped make our event
a success.
In addition to the money raised for the Sports
Complex the event is the main fundraiser for the
BLBA itself. Funds raised are used to maintain
the landscaping along Hwy 9, advertise for BLBA
members and many other business development and
community development projects.
In the coming year the BLBA along with the Rotary
will be refurbishing the garden/fountain at the
south end of town near Bob’s Stop and Get
It. We are also hoping to repair and replace the
town sign that was damaged by a hit and run driver.
A special thanks goes out to Amber Barcus (Ambersoriginals.com)
Debbie Sanchez of Coffee 9, Whitney at the Tyrolean
Inn (TyroleanInn.com), Leah and Rafael Aquayo (mrsafamous.com),
Sheri DeFrancisci (RedwoodsPetSit.com) and Lorraine
Donner (LorraineDonner.com).
